Colorado Artist Spotlight: Meet iNk Jewelry

ink.jpg

The iNk jewelry story began in Colorado, just west of Denver more than ten years ago when Ina and Kristin met at neighborhood craft sale. After two minutes a lasting friendship and studio partnership began. They share a love of jewelry and appreciate reused and recycled materials. We had a chance to interview Kristin recently, and here’s what she had to say about this fun local jewelry line:

iNk Jewelry.jpg
  1. In just 5-10 words, how would you describe your jewelry? Everyday Casual Heirlooms

  2. What is your favorite material to work with? Imagination and Metal

  3. What qualities do you look for when selecting materials? Unique texture color and story.

  4. Where do you get your inspiration? Nature and Life experience

  5. What advice would you give a customer when it comes to jewelry? Buy what you love, love what you buy and don’t worry about what it costs.  When you love it, it’s pennies per day.

  6. What is the most rewarding part about being a jeweler? The friendship and partnership is by far the most important part - it’s having someone to talk through design or construction ideas.  The joy is spending time doing what you love and having absolute control over what that is. Hopefully you feel that when you wear our jewelry.

  1. In just 5-10 words, how would you describe your jewelry? Elevated, everyday jewelry that transitions regardless of what you have planned.

  2. What is your favorite material to work with? It varies from season.  Right now we are really into working with chains!

  3. What qualities do you look for when selecting materials? Quality is of the upmost concern since we stand behind our jewelry for the lifetime of each piece, but we look for stones/materials that are new, exciting and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.

  4. Where do you get your inspiration? We do a lot of color trend research before we create a new collection, but inspiration comes when we find the new stones that work within those color stories and our wheels start turning.

  5. What advice would you give a customer when it comes to jewelry? Love what you wear and spend more on what you plan on wearing every day.  The quality will pay for itself.

  6. What is the most rewarding part about being a jeweler? Working with a team of women that care about and support one another and creating a product that help women feel good about themselves and gives back to our community.

Colorado Artist Spotlight: Meet Jstar Jewelry Designs

jstar.png

Jstar Jewelry Designs is owned by designer, Jessica Starnes. Her story is near and dear to us as Jessica used to work right here at Terra Verde! Jessica founded Jstar Jewelry Designs after several friends and coworkers asked to purchase creations right off her neck, and of course, Terra Verde was her first official client.

Jessica designs and manufactures every piece of her collection in her Colorado mountainside studio, a location that overlooks the Pikes Peak Region from a stunning 9,000-foot vantage point. We sat down with Jessica, and asked her a few questions:

jstar.jpg
  1. In just 5-10 words, how would you describe your jewelry? Simple, Feminine, Casual, Easy-to-wear, Timeless

  2. What is your favorite material to work with? All the beautiful gemstones!

  3. What qualities do you look for when selecting materials? My main focus when choosing stones and planning designs is color.  Each season I research upcoming apparel color trends and then design my collection using gemstones that compliment the “in” colors.

  4. What advice would you give a customer when it comes to jewelry? If you struggle with metal allergies but really love a particular artist’s work, contact them to see if they can modify your favorite design(s) to suit your needs.  Just because I usually work with brass doesn’t mean I can’t make something in sterling silver/gold/non-metal/etc… It’s always worth asking!

Colorado Artist Spotlight: Meet Red Bench Jewelry

red.png

Red Bench jewelry is hand-forged by designer Jackie Barr in her workshop in Denver, Colorado. In honor or our local artist trunk show going on through May 12, we asked Jackie a few questions to learn more about her, and her works of art! See below!

1. In just 5-10 words, how would you describe your jewelry? Bohemian, Eclectic, Classic, Modern, Ageless

2. What is your favorite material to work with? It's so hard to pick one material!  I guess it is a tie between forging copper and carving wax for castings.

RedBench.jpg

3. What qualities do you look for when selecting materials? When I am searching out new gemstones I look for unusual colors and stones cut in unexpected shapes.  I always try to find top quality natural stones from reputable mines and gem cutters.  I have a serious weakness for turquoise!

4. Where do you get your inspiration? Often I am inspired by a particular person in my life and I design with them in mind.  That is why many of my designs have a name attached to them. I am also inspired by nature and all of the beauty it contains... the colors and patterns in landscapes, the night sky, birds, animals.. Colorado provides limitless inspiration. I hope to create objects that speak to different people for many different reasons.

5. What advice would you give a customer when it comes to jewelry? When buying jewelry as a gift it is important to pick a piece that catches your eye right away.  I find people love to get something that the giver feels excited about and will evoke memories of them when they wear it.  Animal totems and favorite colors are a great starting point as well!

6. What is the most rewarding part about being a jeweler? I love making something by hand and knowing that it becomes a meaningful token for someone. To help people create memories associated with an object my hands crafted, is a beautiful thing.  The highest honor is making wedding bands... Such a wonderful way to use my skills to create a very personal and sacred piece.

ALEX AND ANI

ALEX AND ANI was founded in 2004 in Cranston, Rhode Island by Carolyn Rafaelian as a humanitarian company that designs meaningful, eco-conscious jewelry. Her vision for the company is to connect its wearers to a greater purpose and inspire empowerment.

The brand is best known for its range of expandable and stackable wire bangles adorned with symbols that are designed to hold meaning for the wearer. In addition to their bangles, you’ll find Alex and Ani pull bracelets, necklaces and beaded bracelets at Terra Verde.

Ayala Bar

In the late 1980's Ayala Bar surfaced as a prominent Israeli jeweler. Her current designs blend natural elements and glass with assorted metals and fabrics to create a rich mosaic, resulting in the most intricate, limited-edition pieces.

Chipita

Chipita Accessories has been designing and producing jewelry in Southern Colorado for over 40 years. The owner and main designer, Joan Eagle, loves searching for all the incredible pieces used in the jewelry.

She enjoys finding the most beautiful gemstones, antique glass, interesting metals, silver, vermeil, copper, brass, etc. and then blending them into a piece of jewelry that will be lovely, functional and classic.

Mickey Lynn

Mickey Lynn Jewelry is best known for the unique pieces it designs with Druzy gemstones. These glittering rocks are made up of minerals that form on the surface of another stone and are highly sought-after by jewelry lovers. All of the druzy Mickey Lynn uses are 100% natural, and therefore will vary in shape, size and color from piece to piece, making every piece truly unique.

Druzy gemstones are known to have many metaphysical properties. It is said that the stone purifies and amplifies the body's natural healing properties and strengthens the spirit. It is also believed to provide the balance necessary to avoid depression or unnatural feelings of fear or dread.

Original Hardware

From their hand-forged silver pendants to their contemporary designs crafted by their own hands, the team at Original Hardware knows that the little details make a big difference. Based out of Denver, Original Hardware chooses only high-quality materials and semi-precious gemstones when crafting their jewelry. They use ethically sourced materials and 100% recycled sterling silver.

Patricia Locke

Patricia Locke collections always blend the depth of fine art with a modern sense of fashion. Her work is immediately recognizable for its distinctive asymmetry, tantalizing multi-metal combinations and elegant use of positive-negative space.

Based out of Chicago, Patricia and her business partner, Deborah Rethemeyer, work together to design five collections annually. Stop by Terra Verde to view her work; we think you’ll agree that Patricia Locke's collections are timeless, relevant, and collectible.

JStar Jewelry Designs

Our customers and staff love her jewelry. Each design is beautifully handcrafted and created with affordability in mind, so that every woman – regardless of age or income level – can start a collection of handmade pieces she’ll wear over and over again.
